In Her Own Words

LS wanted to do her own post, to reach out directly to her fans. Since she hasn't learned to type quite yet, we agreed a video entry would probably be best.

Whatever it is she's saying, it's difficult to argue with her cuteness.

Redacted

A couple weeks back LS got her first official government identification. She may look a little suspicious in the picture, but we're pretty sure it was just gas.

Dad wonders if she'll have to take her shoes off when going through the security check. Or whether she'll be questioned about what her business was in the other country upon her return.

We just hope they take "a gurgy glurgy gurg" as a valid answer...

First Giggle

Even though it's been a while since posting anything, things haven't gotten any less surreal around here. Mom and Dad are still often found to say, seemingly from nowhere: "we have a daughter". Yeah, it'll sink in eventually.

LS has been doing pretty well. We think she must be having a growth spurt in the last few days though. It really seems like she doesn't want to nap during the day much at all. The night sleeping is usually pretty good though.

Today was particularly challenging. None of the naps were longer than 45 minutes it seems. And then an hour after getting up, LS seemed to want to sleep again. And she ate and ate. And ate. This was all very tiring for mom.

LS has usually been doing pretty well on the night sleeping though. A stretch of close to 8 hours is pretty common now. Not tonight so far though. After getting to sleep at 8:10pm, LS woke up at 11:20pm - do Dad gave her the bottle and let Mom sleep. She went back to bed pretty well, although she seemed to lay there and talk to herself for a while. By 12:15am she was back to sleep though. If LS chooses that stretch to be 8 hours, then Mom will *really* get a good night of sleep!

There's no audio or video of it, but today also brought LS's first giggle - perhaps 5 "he"s long (he-he-he-he-he). That was it, no more after that. Dad was holding LS and making a stuffed bear ("o Orso") dance to the music we were listening to. LS loves o Orso, so it isn't a surprise that he was the target of her first laugh. That his head rattles is clearly in his favor.

There's been lots of pictures taken and little video clips made lately, and hopefully Dad will soon make some time to get those online for those LS fans out there. He knows that the longer he waits the more keep piling up on top.

Rough Week

It was a rough week for dad anyway. LS was actually fine.

But dad spent the whole week sick. Finally on the upswing. The worst part was not wanting mom or LS to get sick - so not being to hold LS for days now. There'll be serious cuddling to do when this passes!

LS has been doing just great sleeping. More often than not this week there has been an 8 or so hour stretch of sleep to start the night. We seem to be in a real rhythm figuring out this sleep thing. For now. Usually this sleep period starts around 6pm to 7pm. The daytime napping is still broken up, but we're working on consolidating those a little bit with some success.

More than once we've put LS down at 5-something in the afternoon thinking and hoping that it is the last day nap and not the first long night sleep. And then, uh oh, she keeps sleeping. And sleeping. And sleeping. Kind of a De-Energizer Bunny.

This week LS started a new little quirk when being put down for a nap or bedtime. Mom would sing to her once putting her down to sleep. And LS would soon smile, then turn her head to sleep. How cute!

There's also been great progress on the figuring-out-what-to-do-with-hands front. LS is spending more time bringing her hands up to her face and gnawing on them. We know that this means soon there will be things in those hands that she'll be gnawing on!

Something else developed in about the last week that is a good measure of how much LS has grown. A common breastfeeding technique now employed is for LS to sit on mom's lap and breastfeed! This is quite a sight - we'll see about some appropriate pictures of this soon maybe.

The picture below was captured just yesterday. Her eyes look particularly huge in this one. This is how she is now - just taking in the whole world.

Oh - and LS's hair is just the *tiniest* bit thicker these days. It's hard to imagine what she'll look like with hair though!

Happy Quarter Birthday LS

It's a day late, but happy 3 months to LS! Hard to believe it's that long already.

LS decided she wanted to give us a gift yesterday apparently. A new sleeping record. 9 hours 40 minutes. Yep, 9+ hours. Pretty crazy.

LS is getting a little better control of her hands. Yesterday it appeared to be the first time that she rubbed an eye when tired.

Sleep has actually been pretty good the last bunch of nights. It is countered by very short naps during the day though. During the day she only want to sleep about 45 minutes at a time usually. But once night comes, then she is trying to become a sleeping champion.

We're going to try and steer her towards a couple longer naps during the day if we can. A morning nap and afternoon nap. But of course, she is ultimately the one in charge!

LS has also been breaking out of her swaddling very often now - a regular Houdini. And once she breaks out she usually gets reacquianted with her thumb.

The picture below is one of her early experiences with the thumb. It appears in this one that once she got it in there she fell right back to sleep.
